We seem to spend a lot of time worrying about fitting in and approaching normalcy. It makes me wonder, though.
What is “normal”?
Perfect social skills? Being good with math? The ability to read college level texts? An infatuation with sports?
Even people who have a “normal” variety of neurology aren’t all exactly the same. What makes them normal, then? Common ability levels? Common interests? What about larger populations? Are people who can cook a four course meal more normal than those who have only mastered the art of microwave dinners?
What if normal doesn’t exist?
Maybe we should stop striving for “normal”, and instead celebrate what makes us unique.
