Well, folks, I’ve gone and done it. I’ve gotten a domain name just for this blog. The old address should still forward to the new one, but if you’d like to update your bookmarks, the new addy is
On to the real topic of the entry!
That would be: better focus when working on the computer.
If you happen to be on social media, you probably already know how addictive it can be. I personally get hooked on scrolling through tumblr or Pinterest, if I’m not careful.
Since I have to do quite a bit of online stuff for writing, I can’t just disconnect from the internet, so I had to find some other alternative. There are quite a few programs that you can buy, and free programs are always a bit risky.
However, I’ve stumbled upon a program called FocalFilter, which has worked wonderfully for me, so far. Really, the only problem I’ve ever had with it is my antivirus program pinging it as a threat every time I run it, and asking if I want to remove it. Otherwise, it only blocks the sites I ask it to, and doesn’t effect any of the programs I need to use.
That said, I believe it only works on Windows, but I’m sure there are other programs available for Mac users. You can also find add ons for your web browsers, if you don’t want to download a program.
I don’t know how helpful it would be for people with attentional issues, but being unable to access addictive sites has been a huge aid for me in getting work done.
